Do you want to make a tangible gift to a NICU graduate and family?
This month begins a research study on the experience of babywearing NICU graduates (babies discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit). We are looking for people to donate a baby carrier or facilitate a donation. Babywearing can make it easier for caregivers to hold their babies after long and difficult hospitalizations. We believe babywearing may have similar benefits as skin-to-skin or Kangaroo Care but there is no research available on babywearing children born prematurely. This study will attempt to bring understanding of the effects that babywearing has on caregiver-child dyads.
Any carriers are welcome! Carriers that are more likely to work with very small infants are the Chimparoo Trek, meh dais that cinch very small, ring slings, and woven wraps in base sizes (6 and above).
Any carriers that aren’t chosen by families involved in the study will be donated to a joint event for families served by OKCity Center and Babywearing International of Oklahoma City held in early December.
For further details and questions email me at RMiller47@UCO.edu or message the Therapeutic Babywearing Facebook page. Donations will be welcomed at the following address. Please include your email address for a donation receipt.
