Children who have low muscle tone can benefit from the core muscle development babywearing provides. When babies are worn they experience all six planes of motion; forward, back, up, down, diagonals. They must respond to the wearer’s movements by tightening their own core muscles to stabilize themselves. This benefit has the potential to reduce the amount of tummy time children need. Always consult with your child’s physical or occupational therapist before modifying a treatment plan. In children without muscle control issues, babywearing can eliminate the need for tummy time.
